Generate 10,000 randomly created NFTs

Generate 10,000 randomly created NFTs

The idea of randomness is rather common, and it can come as a surprise to many people when they discover how it works. There are hundreds of ways to generate data with ease, and if you want something to look like it, then there’s no better option than using a library from which you can choose the best one for your needs.

NFTs have been popular in art sales since 2017, but until now we didn’t know what they were and how they work in practice, let alone how they're done. In fact, nobody knows the exact process behind them, and all we know is that they're great fun pieces of digital art and that people love getting them.

There is still uncertainty about their existence, however. Many people believe them to be some kind of magic or another type of encryption, yet that's not really something we know for sure. If this was true, then it would be possible to create an infinite number of copies — or even more — by combining bits of information.

For anyone who loves music, then there might be similar thoughts when you hear about randomness. However, randomness isn't just used in music. It's also used in the gaming industry, where people use the process of generating samples at specific ratios to play games. You see random numbers everywhere around us, and some people manage to get lucky and discover random results by chance.

So why is randomness so important? Well, according to Pisko Vlovic, PhD, Associate Professor on Cybersecurity and Information Security at Florida Atlantic University, it has to do with two main things: security and privacy. Of course, security stands out as being the most important aspect, but let's dive into the second one a bit deeper.

Vlovic explains: “Randomness makes it impossible to distinguish between a genuine piece of content or fake. Anyone could produce random images by selecting a pixel of every image they viewed (e.g. 1,500 photos), and thus make an entire collection of identical items.” With these words in mind, we can imagine how extremely easy it is to create large amounts of unoriginal images without any effort. However, if someone has made a copy of every photo or video on the internet, that can give the original owner much less protection against theft.

“Randomity ensures the identity and reputation of creators and provides additional tools that protect creators’ privacy, integrity, and intellectual property. This increases security in many forms. For example, users have different levels of access (e.g., public vs. private) to repositories or datasets, thereby improving privacy. Creators can also prevent fraudulent activities by establishing trust boundaries [e.g., whitelist a creator’s IP address for his/her creations]. And artists can provide exclusive rights to their creations and sell products to designated vendors and audiences. These barriers help differentiate creators of high-quality creations from those whose products lack a reliable basis. Furthermore, they help consumers compare content among their social networks.” -Pisko Vlovic

This is why a lot of people have started to think randomness should be given official status in our everyday lives. Let's take a closer look on how to make it a part of our everyday life.

Random generators

Random generators are probably the easiest way for you to generate new data for free. They work by producing random numbers from a seed, usually in the range 0–1. All the time, each node produces random strings by adding up randomness with itself and multiplying with itself. As soon as the algorithm ends, all strings end. To start mining random strings it is necessary to run the generator for a while.

The algorithm, called Perceptron, is designed to predict some numeric input, such as time or temperature based on historical data. It can then use these numbers in order to modify the future output with a given change. Once the network comes back with its generated image, we can use them or export them from an app to other formats of your choice.

There is plenty of apps available to download. Some of them allow to perform random generation tasks, such as text generation and music creation. Others like Apple's own Applescript give developers full control over their workflow, allowing them to mix and match functions to improve productivity in general.

Let's quickly recap the basics of random generators. First, create a seed. We can use a computer with Wi-Fi connection and open the application or open it directly on our smartphones or tablets. Then, select the device containing the seed (usually, a USB drive). After that, click "Start" again, and select your seed.

To generate random numbers, you need to divide the seed by the number of outputs. Usually, the number of inputs is equal to the amount of outputs. Your generated image will contain random strings, usually separated by punctuation. Then, convert this string into a series of numbers and store them somewhere.

To generate multiple images, add them to the pool of strings stored in your database (a hard disk or memory card, obviously), and you'll obtain hundreds of identical photos. So far, almost everything seems perfect. But there is one problem. Each generated image contains unique code, which allows for identifying the source before processing, allowing fraudsters to track down the origin of the data. Using algorithms in software development helps with avoiding this issue while developing applications.

Many platforms and frameworks offer integrations with APIs for creating arbitrary data sources (e.g.: files and folders), but these don't always function automatically, and may require programming knowledge to configure (e.g., setting permissions). Fortunately, we don't have to learn these concepts separately, making integration easy. Just click next and fill in the necessary details.

Using random generators

Now how can you actually implement random generators for yourself? Although they're quite simple, the first thing that springs to mind is having a cloud server that serves our files. However, as soon as you add them to the storage, you begin generating random strings faster than before.

You need a small desktop, preferably equipped with CPU and a decent graphics card to handle intensive processing (e.g., CPU memory and GPU; I recommend Windows 8). Install OpenCV (CV4.0 or later) in case you don't already have it installed on your machine. Use the command-line tool version of CV4.0 or newer.

Once installed, select the folder where you will save your generated images. From here, you can start a program that converts your images (e.g., converting them to PDFs with the specified ratio you want, etc.). Go to Google Drive and tap your browser and find an image that you want to generate. Copy it to your server, upload the file, and the program will do the rest of the job for you. Finally, upload the finished product to your site and distribute.

Conclusion

Nontheless, randomness is an essential element for everyone. Thanks to various libraries and powerful tools, it's easier to get started with your project. Plus, lots of cool projects rely on randomness in their design, too!
